Dubai.  Its a bizarre place.  It feels like being in Disneyland under construction.  Dubai currently has 15% of the world’s cranes in operation.  There is high rise after high rise under construction.

Its hard to imagine how theyre going to fill all these buildings, apartments, homes and malls with people.  Its also Ramadan right now so the locals arent shopping or eating until the evening.  We went to a massive mall called Ibn Battuta and it was almost entirely void of people.

We were disappointed to find out that the indoor ski hill was still under construction and wouldnt be opening until mid-November.  Then the second big disappointment was the fact that you cant go near the Burj Al Arab without being a guest in the six star hotel.  The only way to go inside the Burj is to make a reservation at one of their restaurants.  We tried to get a reservation yesterday but it was fully booked.  Luckily we went to the Wild Wadi waterpark climbed up to the top waterslide and got a great view of the Burj.

The Wadi was hilarious.  Most of the waterslides go up-hill.  You ride on inner tubes and huge jets propel you uphill.  I recently got a underwater case for my digital camera so I got some excellent footage of riding the slides.

Today we went on a 4×4 safari through the dunes.  It was awesome!  It was XTREME!!!  haha. 

JEFF had this to say:

The whole place was a bit surreal. A little bit too controled. Being there during Ramadan didn’t help that much either(as was pointed out by our taxi driver so eloquently, "Why the hell did you come here during Ramadan" – he didn’t get a tip). The Wild Wadi park was cool, but I can envision a water park that could be so much more XTREME. We were thinking something along the lings of getting shot up hill and then fired into a pool 40 feet below.

Also, Jon pushed me at the water park and I broke my toe on a step. I tried to get him back by pushing him off the "double tube" we were riding, but when I turned around the tube riding Gestapo(read: "lifeguard") whistled that fun idea right out of my head.

Monday was SUCH a fun day.  Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to haul ass down the Autobahn in a Porsche and drive very very fast.  On Monday this dream became a reality!  I woke up early and went to Beverly cars where I rented a Porsche 911 convertible.  It was a 2003 model, 350 horse power, 6 speed, black on black, extremely awesome. 

It was a pretty damn expensive rental…but holy shit was it worth it!  I drove away from Beverly cars and stopped at my first stop light with a massive grin on my face.  In Germany the street lights are just like racing lights.  Instead of going immediately from red to green, they go red, then yellow, then green.  So I stop at my first street light and I’m very excited, I cant wait to tear off the line.  Im sitting there for what feels like ages, then it turns yellow! then green!  I let the clutch out and stomp on the gas….AND……………….STALL!  hahahah!  Cars start honking…people are staring…I’m turning very red trying to figure out how to start the car again.  People start passing me on either side.  Im finally able to start the car again and slowly drive off the line. haha!  Such a goof!  After about five minutes I start to get the hang of it and start to open er up.  Porsches are very easy to drive.  I stop at another light, this time I feel pretty comfortable, and I’ve noticed that most people take off when it turns yellow…so again, its red, then yellow…and Im off!  Vrrrroooommm!!!!  Im thrown back in my seat, in seconds im already doing 100 km/h, and Im only in second gear!  I slam it into third…pass a few cars, then slam on the brakes for the next light.  WHOA.  Now I know why these cars are so freakin expensive.  After driving around Berlin for a half hour I made my way to the autobahn…finally found an on ramp…and tore it up.  Next thing I knew I was flying past Mercedes, BMWs and Acuras.  It was fantastic, I was in the fast lane and most of the cars would just get out of the way and they change lanes very quickly.  I looked down at the stick and I was only in 5th…are you kidding me?  Im already doing 220 km/h and I have another gear?  I step on the gas and this car just keeps going and going…  Oh man.  I got this Porsche going pretty damn fast, 280 km/h and it was still handling great!!!  So much fun!  I spent the next 7 hours driving all over Germany.  Easily one of the most fun days I’ve ever had!
